I feel overdue for working through the edits on Red Jade: Book 2: The Shattered Shards. My editor, Rochelle Deans, worked through the manuscript and finished in September. Here I am in January and still haven’t gone through them all.
Part of what held me up was that I wanted her to work through books 3 and 4 also so I could incorporate any long-term edits into book 2. I am glad I did wait because there are some minor issues here and there that needed to be addressed, and I’m glad to offer those corrections early in book 2, rather than waiting.
November and December were busy months, indeed. Now, despite another frantic-looking month ahead, I’m eager to plug away at the changes I need to make to improve the flow of the story.
It is my personal goal to have Book 2 ready by mid-February, but if I really buckled down then I could potentially reach my original goal, which would be three months after Journeys in Kallisor‘s release, which means I would need to push book two out by the 17th of this month. That’s not far off! It is possible. But I don’t want to rush it either.
With the cover art done, I have to finish tweaking the prose and then revamp the book description for the back cover. The one I put together for the cover art placeholder is, in my opinion, not up to snuff.
So now I have the tracks composed by Jared Reed up and running in the background. He still has a sampling on his soundcloud page if you’d like to check them out. Where he has 10 tracks posted, I have happy access to just over 100. Though many of those are drafts or different versions of others, the variation among them all inspires me.
I love hearing the first round of notes he crafted and then how he added layers and instruments until the track was nearly complete. As with any book, editing never ends and tweaks can always be made, but I’m ever hopeful Jared will pull the whole set together and fill in any gaps we find along the way.
In chapter 2 of the Shattered Shards, the team is up against some feral creatures. It’s time to crank up the Battle Dance and get to hacking and slashing away at edits!
