Week 4 Complete

Partly because I have a wedding coming up, but more so for my overall health, I have been working with an in-home personal trainer from Gym Guyz. David has been pushing me hard every session and it has been a great experience.

I’ve been commenting online after Saturday’s session each week as a means of reminding myself of the work I’m doing. It’s important because I don’t “see” any results yet. I’m definitely getting stronger and building more stamina. I’m clearly improving. Losing weight isn’t like magic though. It takes time for the body to shed the fat. I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that I wish it didn’t work that way.

I have had four hour-long sessions each week. We’ve done interval training throughout, so it’s a lot of variety in intensity. Today had two killers for me. One was standing up, doing a squat, putting my hands on the floor and crawling out into push-up position. From there, bring one knee out and up, then the other. Then do a push-up, crawl back to my feet, stand up, and jump to touch the ceiling. See? I couldn’t even describe that in a single sentence. It took forever for me to get through the first set. And the second.

The other killer today was being in a plank position. Extend out one arm and the opposite leg. Hold for fifteen years seconds. Then the other side. Then back to plank position for thirty before taking a rest. Ok, repeat. Next set, hold out for twice as long.

Ok, so I’m grumbling now. I just finished a session a half hour ago. But I do feel stronger and I’m proud of myself for pushing as hard as I am. I’ve had trainers before. They were with me for either two or three days a week. I’ve never done four. It has been difficult but I’m still pushing through.

I’m grateful to Jared who originally started with me way back in 2009 and made me feel like I actually could do all this. I’m thankful to Tim who helped me through a hectic summer after an exercise hiatus. I’m thankful to Brian for adding to his busy day and motivating me to get back on my feet. I’m grateful to David for the flexibility in exercises and for keeping things light-hearted while I’m growling and grunting like an ursalor.
